LICC 2021 Entry: Tangled Tessellations, Pareidolia Wonderlands
7 images Created 8 Dec 2021
Working at the intersection of nature photography, William Morris-style wallpaper design and Islamic zellij tilework, I created a series of digital mosaics to explore how different methods of tesselating a "tile" cut from an image of Sierra Nevada manzanita could produce different "wallpaper" patterns. Because mirrored symmetries within designs evoke optical illusions of creatures, faces, and other familiar or fanciful objects, this digital art project invites its audience to explore the imaginative wonderland of human perception called "pareidolia."
